Nummular Eczema
Nummular Eczema is characterized by the appearance of round, coin-like plaque outbreaks. Like other forms of eczema it can be very itchy and painful. The plaques are raised areas of skin with a whitish appearance on the surface - this is caused by a buildup of dead skin.
The cause of nummular eczema is not known, but there usually is a personal or family history of asthma, allergies, atopic dermatitis, etc. It is relatively uncommon, occurring mainly in elderly men. Several environmental factors may make Nummular Eczema worse:
-Dry Skin
-Skin Irriatants
-Stress or Anxiety
-Change in climate and Temperature
Excess bathing, wools, lanolin, and various foods which aggravate allergic reactions make the condition worse - therefore, it is best to limit exposure to these.
